Thus says the Lord: “If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done.” Jeremiah 31:37
But, of course, heaven cannot be measured. The Lord’s mercy, His hesed, is beyond all measure. The more we realize how wonderful the Lord truly is, the more acute is our awareness of our own sinfulness. As the hymnwriter said, “My sinful self my only shame. My glory all the cross!”
