Jesus Christ, my sure Defense
\nAnd my Savior, ever Iiveth;
\nKnowing this, my confidence
\nRests upon the hope it giveth
\nThough the night of death be fraught
\nStill with many an anxious thought.<\/p>\n
Jesus, my Redeemer, lives;
\nI, too, unto life shall waken.
\nEndless joy my Savior gives;
\nShall my courage, then, be shaken?
\nShall I fear, or could the Head
\nRise and leave His members dead?<\/p>\n
Nay, too closely am I bound
\nUnto Him by hope forever;
\nFaith’s strong hand the Rock hath found,
\nGrasped it, and will leave it never;
\nEven death now cannot part
\nFrom its Lord the trusting heart.<\/p>\n
I am flesh and must return
\nUnto dust, whence I am taken;
\nBut by faith I now discern
\nThat from death I shall awaken
\nWith my Savior to abide
\nIn His glory, at His side.<\/p>\n
Glorified, I shall anew
\nWith this flesh then be enshrouded;
\nIn this body I shall view
\nGod, my Lord, with eyes unclouded;
\nIn this flesh I then shall see
\nJesus Christ eternally.<\/p>\n
Then these eyes my Lord shall know,
\nMy Redeemer and my Brother;
\nIn His love my soul shall glow,–
\nI myself, and not another!
\nThen the weakness I feel here
\nShall forever disappear.<\/p>\n
They who sorrow here and moan
\nThere in gladness shall be reigning;
\nEarthly here the seed is sown,
\nThere immortal life attaining.
\nHere our sinful bodies die,
\nGlorified to dwell on high.<\/p>\n
Then take comfort and rejoice,
\nFor His members Christ will cherish.
\nFear not, they will hear His voice;
\nDying, they shall never perish;
\nFor the very grave is stirred
\nWhen the trumpet’s blast is heard.<\/p>\n
Laugh to scorn the gloomy grave
\nAnd at death no longer tremble;
\nHe, the Lord, who came to save
\nWill at last His own assemble.
\nThey will go their Lord to meet,
\nTreading death beneath their feet.<\/p>\n
Oh, then, draw away your hearts
\nNow from pleasures base and hollow.
\nThere to share what He imparts,
\nHere His footsteps ye must follow.
\nFix your hearts beyond the skies,
\nWhether ye yourselves would rise.<\/p>\n
