PRELUDE – “Stricken, Smitten and Afflicted”
\n<\/em><\/p>\n


\nCongregation standing
\n<\/u><\/p>\n

The LORD reigns. Let the peoples tremble.<\/p>\n

He dwells between the cherubim, let the earth be moved!<\/strong><\/p>\n

The LORD is great in Zion, and He is high above all the peoples.<\/p>\n

Exalt the LORD our God, and worship at His holy hill, for the LORD our God is holy.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Who is like the LORD our God, who humbles Himself to behold the heavens and the earth?<\/p>\n

Who would not fear You, O King of the nations? For this is Your rightful due….there is none like You.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I saw the Lord, high and lifted up.<\/p>\n

And the train of His robe filled the temple.<\/strong><\/p>\n

His garment was white as snow, and the hair of His head was like pure wool. His throne was a fiery flame, Its wheels a burning fire; A fiery stream issued and came forth from before Him. A thousand thousands ministered to Him; Ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him.<\/p>\n

And one cried to another and said: Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory!<\/strong><\/p>\n

And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the temple was filled with smoke.<\/p>\n

And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened.<\/p>\n

And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If You, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?<\/p>\n


\nCongregation seated<\/u><\/p>\n

Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

There is none righteous, no, not one. There is none who understands; there is none who seeks after God. They<\/em> have all turned aside. They <\/em>have together become unprofitable.<\/p>\n

All we<\/em> like sheep have gone astray. We<\/em> have turned, every one, to his own way.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Will the Lord our God be pleased with thousands of rams,
\nTen thousand rivers of oil?
\nShall I give my firstborn for my transgression,
\nThe fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?<\/p>\n

O Lord, You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it. You do not delight in burnt offerings.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Therefore, when He came into the world, He said:
\n\u201cSacrifice and offering You did not desire,
\nBut a body You have prepared for Me.
\nIn burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin
\nYou had no pleasure.
\nBehold, I have come\u2014
\nIn the volume of the book it is written of Me\u2014
\nTo do Your will, O God.”<\/p>\n

Behold! My Servant whom I uphold,
\nMy Elect One in whom My soul delights!
\nI have put My Spirit upon Him.
\nHe will bring forth justice to the Gentiles.<\/strong><\/p>\n

My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?
\nWhy are You so far from helping Me,
\nAnd from the words of My groaning?
\nO My God, I cry in the daytime, but You do not hear;
\nAnd in the night season, and am not silent.<\/p>\n

I saw the Lord, high and lifted up.
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

But I am a worm, and no man;
\nA reproach of men, and despised by the people.
\nAll those who see Me ridicule Me;<\/p>\n

And the train of His robe filled the temple.<\/strong><\/p>\n

They divide My garments among them,
\nAnd for My clothing they cast lots.<\/p>\n

And one cried to another and said: Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory!<\/strong><\/p>\n

They shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,
\n“He trusted in the Lord, let Him rescue Him;
\nLet Him deliver Him, since He delights in Him!\u201d<\/p>\n

Many bulls have surrounded Me;
\nStrong bulls of Bashan have encircled Me.
\nThey gape at Me with their mouths,
\nLike a raging and roaring lion.<\/p>\n

And having blindfolded Him, they struck Him on the face and asked Him, saying, \u201cProphesy! Who is the one who struck You?”<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fierce witnesses rise up. They ask me things that I do not know. They repay me evil for good, to the sorrow of my soul.<\/p>\n

I am poured out like water,
\nAnd all My bones are out of joint;
\nMy heart is like wax;
\nIt has melted within Me.
\nMy strength is dried up like a potsherd,
\nAnd My tongue clings to My jaws;
\nYou have brought Me to the dust of death.
\nFor dogs have surrounded Me;<\/p>\n

The congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me.
\nThey pierced My hands and My feet;
\nI can count all My bones.
\nThey look and stare at Me.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by? Behold and see if there is any sorrow like my sorrow. Which has been brought on me.
\nWhich the Lord has inflicted in the day of his fierce anger. <\/p>\n

And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him;
\nHe was despised, and we did not esteem Him.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Then Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. And Pilate said to them, “Behold the Man!”<\/p>\n

\nAh, holy Jesus, what law hast thou broken
\nThat such sharp sentence should on Thee be spoken?
\nOf what great crime hast Thou to make confession,
\nWhat dark transgression?<\/p>\n

They crown Thy head with thorns, they smite, they scourge Thee;
\nWith cruel mockings to the cross they urge Thee;
\nThey give Thee gall to drink, they still decry Thee;
\nThey crucify Thee.<\/p>\n

Whence come these sorrows, whence this mortal anguish?
\nIt is my sins for which Thou, Lord, must languish;
\nYea, all the wrath, the woe, Thou dost inherit,
\nThis I do merit.<\/p>\n

What punishment so strange is suffered yonder!
\nThe Shepherd dies for sheep that loved to wander;
\nThe Master pays the debt His servants owe Him,
\nWho would not know Him.<\/p>\n

O wondrous love, whose depth no heart hath sounded,
\nThat brought Thee here, by foes and thieves surrounded!
\nAll worldly pleasures, heedless, I was trying
\nWhile Thou wert dying.
\n<\/em><\/p>\n

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.<\/p>\n

O Lord, in wrath, remember mercy.<\/p>\n

If you, O LORD, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness, that You may be feared. I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in His word I hope. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. And he touched my mouth with it, and said:<\/p>\n

\u201cBehold, this has touched your lips;
\nYour iniquity is taken away,
\nAnd your sin purged.\u201d<\/p>\n

For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.<\/strong><\/p>\n

HYMN – “In Silent Pain the Eternal Son”
\nIn silent pain the eternal Son
\nHangs derelict and still;
\nIn darkened day His work is done,
\nFulfilled, His Father\u2019s will.
\nUplifted for the world to see
\nHe hangs in strangest victory,
\nFor in His body on the tree
\nHe carries all our ill.<\/p>\n

He died that we might die to sin
\nAnd live for righteousness;
\nThe earth is stained to make us clean
\nAnd bring us into peace.
\nFor peace He came and met its cost;
\nHe gave Himself to save the lost;
\nHe loved us to the uttermost
\nAnd paid for our release.<\/em><\/p>\n

This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.<\/p>\n

But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Peace be with you.<\/p>\n

And also with you.<\/strong><\/p>\n

For He Himself<\/em> is our Peace.<\/strong> <\/p>\n

Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be faithless, but believing.<\/p>\n

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty,
\nMaker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible.
\nAnd in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God,
\nBegotten of His Father before all worlds,
\nGod of God, Light of Light, Very God of Very God,
\nBegotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father,
\nBy whom all things were made;
\nWho for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven
\nAnd was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary
\nAnd was made man;
\nAnd was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate.
\nHe suffered and was buried.
\nAnd the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures
\nAnd ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father.
\nAnd He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead,
\nWhose kingdom will have no end.
\nAnd I believe in the Holy Spirit,
\nThe Lord and giver of life,
\nWho proceeds from the Father and the Son,
\nWho with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified,
\nWho spoke by the prophets.
\nAnd I believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church,
\nI acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins,
\nAnd I look for the resurrection of the dead
\nAnd the life of the world to come. Amen.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. <\/p>\n

Even so, Amen.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If anyone does not love the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be accursed.
\nO Lord, come!<\/p>\n

If anyone does not confess that our Lord Jesus Christ, who was crucified in the flesh
\nIs true God,
\nAnd the Lord of Glory,
\nAnd one of the Holy Trinity
\nLet him be anathema.<\/strong><\/p>\n

HYMN – “O Sacred Head Now Wounded”
\nO sacred Head, now wounded, with grief and shame weighed down,
\nNow scornfully surrounded with thorns, Thine only crown;
\nO sacred Head, what glory, what bliss till now was Thine!

What Thou, my Lord, hast suffered, was all for sinners\u2019 gain;
\nMine, mine was the transgression, but Thine the deadly pain.

\nTurned away God’s wrath forever.
\nBy His bitter grief and woe,
\nHe saved us from the evil Foe.<\/p>\n

As His pledge of love undying
\nHe, this precious food supplying.
\nGives His body with the bread
\nAnd with the wine the blood He shed.<\/p>\n

Thou shalt hold with faith unshaken
\nThat this food is to be taken
\nBy the sick who are distressed,
