Hebrews 2:2-3<\/em>
\nFor if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward, how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation?<\/em><\/p>\n

CALEB: I guess I don’t understand. \u00a0What is sin?<\/p>\n

MOSES: Sin is disobedience. \u00a0When we disobey, we sin. \u00a0We do wrong. \u00a0And when we do wrong, we disappoint God; we make Him angry even.<\/p>\n

After you guys went to bed last night, Caleb and some other campers threw a party. \u00a0They called it a party. \u00a0It was awful. \u00a0They danced around a statue of a golden cow, and worshiped it as if it were their God! \u00a0Did they think a golden cow made the world that we live in? \u00a0Did they think a golden cow pulled back the mighty waters of the Red Sea? I think most of you were in bed, but if you were there, well, then, I’m pretty upset with all of you.<\/p>\n

CALEB: I see what you mean. \u00a0I’m sorry I made you sad. \u00a0I won’t do that again.<\/p>\n

MOSES: I hear you, Caleb. \u00a0And I forgive you, all of you. \u00a0But what about God? \u00a0Are you and God OK? \u00a0That’s the thing.<\/p>\n

What did we learn yesterday? \u00a0We learned that God, our Creator, is a real Person. \u00a0Even though right now we can’t see Him with our eyes, or touch Him with our hands, He is real. He is nothing like a statue of a golden cow! \u00a0He made the world and everything in it. \u00a0And He has rules. \u00a0He gave Adam & Eve—we learned about them yesterday too—He gave Adam & Eve some rules to obey. \u00a0Actually just one. \u00a0But they broke that rule. \u00a0They broke it on purpose. \u00a0That was a very big deal. \u00a0A huge deal. \u00a0It was as if they said to God, “We like the beautiful garden you made and all, but we don’t really need you. \u00a0We can make our own decisions. \u00a0We can do it our own way.”<\/p>\n

Yesterday we learned that we are all Israelites because our great ancestor’s name was Israel. \u00a0Well, in the same way, we are all sinners because we are all descended from Adam & Eve. \u00a0We are just like them. \u00a0We find it so easy to turn away from God , just like they did.<\/p>\n

Now some of you might be thinking, “I didn’t dance around no stupid cow last night! \u00a0I’m no sinner!” \u00a0Maybe you didn’t. \u00a0But here’s the thing. \u00a0Sin is not so much what we do. It’s who we are<\/em>. \u00a0It’s our nature to be rebellious. \u00a0Think about it. \u00a0Have you ever thrown a temper-tantrum? \u00a0Who taught you how to do that? \u00a0Nobody had to, huh? \u00a0It’s your nature. \u00a0It’s the way we are<\/em>. \u00a0That’s why sometimes you don’t listen to Mommy & Daddy. \u00a0That’s why sometimes \u00a0you are unkind to your brother or sister. \u00a0That’s why sometimes you sulk around when things don’t go your way. \u00a0We are all guilty.<\/p>\n

But the real God is holy and kind and good. \u00a0And He wants to be our God. But sin and disobedience have separated us—all of us—from Him. \u00a0That is why we can’t see Him with our eyes now or touch Him with our hands now. \u00a0It’s not because He’s a ghost. \u00a0Before Adam & Eve sinned, God actually walked and talked with them in the beautiful garden He had made for them! \u00a0Imagine that! \u00a0No, it’s because of sin. \u00a0Sin in our hearts. \u00a0Sin in the world around us. \u00a0Sin has separated us from God. \u00a0Sin is the problem.<\/p>\n

Well, we’ve talked about some heavy stuff today, and you may have questions. Your camp counselors will talk with you more in a few minutes. \u00a0I don’t want to leave you on a sad note however, so let me say that tomorrow we’ll learn about God’s wonderful solution!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
