O God, why have you rejected us so long?\u00a0Why is your anger so intense against the sheep of your own pasture?\u00a0Remember that we are the people you chose long ago,\u00a0the tribe you redeemed as your own special possession!\u00a0\u00a0And remember Jerusalem, your home here on earth.\u00a0Walk through the awful ruins of the city;\u00a0see how the enemy has destroyed your sanctuary.\u00a0\u00a0There your enemies shouted their victorious battle cries;\u00a0there they set up their battle standards.\u00a0They swung their axes\u00a0like woodcutters in a forest.\u00a0With axes and picks,\u00a0 they smashed the carved paneling.\u00a0They burned your sanctuary to the ground.\u00a0They defiled the place that bears your name.\u00a0Then they thought, \u201cLet\u2019s destroy everything!\u201d\u00a0\u00a0So they burned down all the places where God was worshiped.\u00a0We no longer see your miraculous signs.\u00a0All the prophets are gone,\u00a0and no one can tell us when it will end.<\/em><\/p>\n

It seems strange that the psalmist would ask why. “Why have you rejected us?\u00a0 Why is your anger so intense?”\u00a0 Had not the LORD God warned His people through prophet after prophet, that unless they turned from their idolatrous ways to serve the LORD wholeheartedly, that they would be destroyed? In a way, it is the LORD’s mercy that His people were not totally consumed.\u00a0 It is of the LORD’s mercies… <\/em>And His faithfulness to the covenant with His people.<\/p>\n

A covenant is much more than a legal contract.\u00a0 It is a committed relationship.<\/p>\n
