“Add many years to the life of the king!”
And to my life also, dear Father in heaven. I would love you with all my heart until it stops beating.

For forty years I led you through the desert … yet your sandals did not wear out." Duet. 29:5
“Add many years to the life of the king!”
And to my life also, dear Father in heaven. I would love you with all my heart until it stops beating.
“Surely there is a God…”
If I let my mind entertain the thought that He isn’t really there, it is as if the ground beneath my feet begins to give way.
But if I meditate on the fact that He is there, really there, it is as if heaven is right there within my grasp if I but stand on my tip toes and stretch out my hand.
“Give your burdens to the LORD…”
What kind of God would be concerned over what burdens us? How is it that God is that intimately involved with each of us, and yet at the same time transcendent above all things?
“God looks down from heaven on the entire human race; he looks to see if anyone is truly wise, if anyone seeks God. But no, all have turned away; all have become corrupt. No one does good, not a single one!”
The turn away from God is a left turn, leading to destruction.
“Make me well again, so I can pay them back!”
I don’t know what to do with a verse like this. David, as king of Israel, God’s chosen people, wanted his strength back so he could execute judgment on his enemies.
I would ask for grace today that I may love mine.
“We are merely moving shadows, and all our busy rushing ends in nothing.”
If there is no long run, nothing about the short run really matters.
“For I am waiting for you, O LORD. You must answer for me, O Lord my God.”
For David, it wasn’t, “Well, if he answers, fine, and if he doesn’t answer, fine.” You must answer. My hopes and dreams, my reason for living, my reality –it’s all you, Lord, it is all you.
“The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the LORD holds them by the hand.”
He delights in every detail. If this is so, we ought to pray about everything, big and small.
“Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the ocean depths.”
Ought not such a God fill our hearts to overflowing?
“Wake up! Rise to my defense! Take up my case, my God and my Lord.”
We have no case worth defending, if it is just our case. Rather, it is the case of my God that is worth defending. It is worth everything.
